
PCD and DHL announce new partnership

PCD Computer Recycling have entered into a partnership with DHL Supply Chain which has seen PCD's whole operation relocated within DHL's warehousing infrastructure. In addition DHL's Technical Courier division will now be handling all logistical operations from 7 hubs in the UK. "Being embedded within DHL’s infrastructure means that PCD have gone from being a strong regional disposal company to having the most extensive UK coverage in our industry." Tim Hayden, Managing Director of PCD said. "In addition, this partnership means that our facility has the added security of being manned 24-7."

Nigeria takes tougher stance on WEEE

Customs officers, security services and environmental workers in Nigeria have been given instructions to clamp down on illegal imports of WEEE into the country. Nigeria will now be working more closely with the EU and the USA to ensure stricter control of cross-border e-waste trading.

PCD Target 9 Million Kilos of Waste

Computer and IT recycling firm PC Disposals has set itself a target of saving over 9,000,000 kgs of e-waste from going to landfill sites by the end of 2009. "Our new facility in Welwyn Garden City means that we can process much more in a shorter time period" said Tim Hayden, managing Director of PC Disposals. "Our aim is to re-use as much IT equipment as possible including recycling component parts through our partnership with Sims Recycling Solutions".

Beware of Cowboy Traders

Computer recycling firm PC Disposals' Managing Director Tim Hayden, concurred with Computer Aid's call on the government to clamp down on cowboy traders exporting waste to Africa and other developing countries. Demand for electronic waste in Africa is still high and a recent check revealed that 500 containers full of e-waste arrive in Lagos, Nigeria every month. The dumping of e-waste into the African markets causes more harm than good as a result of environmental pollution and attendant health implications.
